ode to aging

To commemorate her 69th birthday, Julie Andrews made a special appearance at Manhattan's Radio City Music Hall for the benefit of the AARP. One of the musical numbers she performed was My Favorite Things from the legendary movie The Sound Of Music.

Here are the lyrics she used:

Maalox and nose drops and needles for knitting,
Walkers and handrails and new dental fittings,
Bundles of magazines tied up in string,
These are a few of my favourite things.

Cadillac's and cataracts, and hearing aids and glasses,
Polident and Fixodent and false teeth in glasses,
Pacemakers, golf carts and porches with swings,
These are a few of my favorite things.

When the pipes leak,
When the bones creak,
When the knees go bad,
I simply remember my favourite things,
And then I don't feel so bad.

Hot tea and crumpets and corn pads for bunions,
No spicy hot food or food cooked with onions,
Bathrobes and heating pads and hot meals they bring,
These are a few of my favourite things.

Back pains, confused brains, and no need for sinnin',
Thin bones and fractures and hair that is thinnin',
And we won't mention our short, shrunken frames,
When we remember our favourite things.

When the joints ache,
When the hips break,
When the eyes grow dim,
Then I remember the great life I've had,
And then I don't feel so bad.

Ms. Andrews deservedly received a standing ovation from the crowd that lasted over four minutes.

LOL, too funny. The things I have to look forward to (I'll let you know what it's like seeing as you ARE SO MUCH YOUNGER). I like Julie Andrews and think she suffered from being typecast after The Sound of Music.

Very cute. ... I love that song and she has such a pretty voice. Didn't she have to have surgery for a pre-cancerous throat condition? Thank goodness she didn't lose her voice...it really is pretty. ... Funny post!

Yes, I want at least a 30-days heads up BEFORE I have to experience any of those symptoms. ;) And hey, what are you doing working so much?

Yes, she did have to have surgery if I remember correctly. That must have been so scary!

Oh my goodness!!!! You are not going to believe this! Speaking again of coincidences, and especially those attached to your blog. The friend whose father had the silver hair that I commented on, that same friend was related to the REAL von Trapp family (i think "once removed") from "The Sound of Music". OK. These coincidences are getting "scary"! :) (insert scary alien sounding music here)

Ooooooh, I love coincidences! I'll have to post sometime about a dream I had a few months ago. I told Susan about it already, but the coincidence of it was almost jaw-dropping.

Hi Dakota! Glad you're enjoying your break so far!
