this made me laugh
What a girl! He had never in his life before met a woman who could write a letter without a postscript, and this was but the smallest of her unusual gifts. —P.G. WODEHOUSE
Snort. I believe the highest number of postscripts in any of my posts is five, but then, who's counting?
Um, do any of you Wodehouse fans know where I can find this particular passage? Thanks!

Great quote. I have a little pile of Wodehouse next to my bed. I'll let you know if I come across the quote.

I've read about twenty of Wodehouse's ninety novels but can't remember having read the quote. Could be in 'Sally', which is a charming early novel. She's like that, but so are many other of his heroines. My favourite novel is 'Right Ho, Jeeves'. His best series is the Blandings Castle series, I think. Best periods: Twenties and thirties. He began writing in 1906 and kept going for about seventy years. All his novels are still in print and easily available in various editions, even in fine hardbacks. Remarkable, isn't it?

Thanks, pieces. Yes, quite remarkable, country dweller, but highly encouraging too!
I read the quote in Michael Dirda's Book by Book (see new post), and this is what he wrote right before it:
For me, in particular, P.G. Wodehouse—master of silly situations and dizzying similes—possesses the wand of the enchanter:
Nice endorsement!
